Everything you need to know before The Huntsman: Winter's War comes out tomorrow.
What is it?
The Huntsman: Winter’s War is the sequel to 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman.
If you take Snow White out of the equation, is there still a story?
Well, apparently so. I called it a sequel – which is true – but it’s also a prequel. The titular huntsman was not the only one of his kind but actually a member of a legion of huntsmen with sworn featly to the Ice Queen (the sister of Snow White’s Evil Queen). Without giving away the story – it’s about the huntsman before and after the events of Snow White and the Huntsman.
You’re not great at these summaries…
I don’t know why I even try – here’s the official synopsis:
Long before the evil Queen Ravenna (Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya (Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen—including Eric (Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Chastain)—only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.
Do I need to watch the first film?
Based on the synopsis I would say no and to be honest, the first film isn’t all that great.
Umm, if the first film sucked why should I watch this one?
I never used the word ‘sucked’ – it was just very forgettable and it seemed a bit confused with its own plot but this one seems like it’s going to be much better. I’m basing that solely on the trailer but Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain have joined the cast for this film. Emily Blunt makes everything better.
Who else is in the cast?
Returning from the first film: Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Nick Frost & Sam Claflin. As well as Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain, new cast members include: Colin Morgan and Rob Brydon.
I will let you know what I think about the film in a review tomorrow night.
