Welcome to the weekend: I have so much for you today, from castings to cancellations, and it’s not just Marvel this time.
Powerless Pilot Picked Up
Powerless is a comedy about an insurance firm that exists within the DC universe – essentially these are the people on the ground when the heroes are flying around destroying a city’s infrastructure. NBC has picked up the show for an entire season and it will star Vanessa Hudgens, Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi & Christina Kirk.
Space Jam Director Warns Against Sequel
Somebody else thinks that a sequel to Space Jam is a bad idea? Shocker… However, the “somebody else” speaking out about it this time is none other than the director of the original movie. In a recent interview Joe Pytka said that the project was “doomed” as they didn’t have the right type of basketball players around right now. He said:
“Don’t do it. It’s doomed. Michael Jordan was the biggest star on the planet.”
Michael B. Jordan & Lupita Nyong’o Join Black Panther
We all met Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War and everybody (with good reason) seems to love him. As his solo film gets closer, we’re hearing more casting news – Lupita Nyong’o is currently in talks to star in the film whilst Michael B. Jordan has been cast (potentially as the villain). This will be Michael B. Jordan’s third time working with director, Ryan Coogler.
Supergirl Renewed For Second Season
We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief for Supergirl which has finally been renewed for its second season after some worry that it would be cancelled. The show will be moving networks: going from CBS to the CW where it will join The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. How will this change the show? Hopefully not too much but at least we can look forward to more crossovers.
Agent Carter Cancelled
We knew it was coming but it was still a massive blow: Agent Carter will not have a third season. The show had been bleeding ratings and now we will never learn the truth behind the massive cliffhanger at the end of the second season. Also, Marvel’s Most Wanted is unwanted (ha, ha, I haven’t been reading that joke all day) – the spin-off from Agents of Shield starring the characters, Bobbi and Hunter, was not picked up for series. Not that this is competition but I think DC won the week.
That is it today but if you’ve missed anything this week, come back tomorrow and we’ll fill you in with our weekly news round-up. Until then:
Is Powerless a show that you want to see? How do you feel about the casting for Black Panther? Were you an Agent Carter fan? Let me know in the comments.
