If you’re reading this then you probably know that the Emmy Awards are happening this Sunday and that they celebrate the best of American primetime television programming. You’re not wrong… but you’re not entirely right either.
The Primetime Emmys are probably the most widely recognised because they are arguably the most prestigious but there a lot of other types of Emmy ceremonies that happen throughout the year: daytime emmys, engineering emmys, regional emmys, sports emmys, news and documentary emmys etc.
The list goes on and on and within those different ceremonies they are further divided into separate categories. I could write an essay about the range of Emmys but you don’t want to read that and I don’t have the time in my life to write it. Instead, I want to focus on the award that we all think of when we hear the word ’emmy’. We all know about the ceremony taking place in the Microsoft Theatre this Sunday but what about the ceremony that took place there over the last two days?
The Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards take place every year alongside the Primetime Emmy Awards but they aren’t broadcast live on television (US citizens can watch them on Saturday on FXX). You’re probably wondering what exactly these awards celebrate so here’s how the Emmys’ website describes them:

the Creative Arts Emmy Awards span more than 20 separate categories, which explains why the ceremony takes place over two nights. From casting, to commercials, to stunt coordination, the Creative Arts Emmys really strive to recognise every aspect of the work that goes into forming the television experience.
As I said, there are too many categories and even more individual awards for me to name, but if you’re interested in finding out who won what this year, then you can check that out here.
Did you already know about the Creative Arts Emmy Awards? Are there any people that you feel aren’t recognised by any Emmy awards? Let me know in the comments.
