Happy Sunday! This week has been insanely full of fantastic things. From trailers, to premiere dates to castings – there was a lot to keep up with. In fact, you may find yourself asking: wait, what happened? If that’s the case, I’ve got you covered.
How To Train Your Dragon 3 Moves To 2019
I had no idea that there was even going to be a third How To Train Your Dragon movie so I can’t say that I was that disappointed to hear that it was delayed from a 2018 release to a 2019 release. I love these films and I’m just excited that the series is continuing. The third film is reported to focus on Toothless finding a mate and Hiccup dealing with the responsibilities of being village chief. This delay may be the result of Universal’s acquisition of Dreamworks which has also seen The Croods 2 removed from the release schedule.
Shameless’ Emmy Rossum Demans Equal Pay
Emmy Rossum, one of the stars of Shameless, is now demanding equal pay to her co-star, William H. Macy. The show is moving into its eighth season so Rossum has been paid less than her male co-star for years. At this stage, I have no idea why this is even an argument. Admittedly, when the show first began Macy was a much more famous face and added more value to the show in that respect. However, the show is now well-established and they both play equally vital roles to the story. Equal pay for equal work.
Sherlock Season 4 Teaser
The new season of Sherlock is so close! In the new year, season 4 of Sherlock will be arriving on our screens and I, for one, cannot wait. The teaser was uploaded yesterday and… it was okay. I wish that it was incredibly exciting and that I loved it a lot more but it just didn’t have the same effect as anything Sherlock normally has on me. Maybe you’ll like it more than I did. You can watch it below:
Are you a fan of How To Train Your Dragon? Do you believe that female actors should make as much as their co-stars? How much are you looking forward to Sherlock? Let me know in the comments.
Happy Saturday, geeks. I hope that everybody has had an amazing week so far but, let’s face it, not everybody has. If you need something to cheer you up then why not check out all the great geeky news that happened this week. I mean, you’re already reading this: you might as well just continue.
Billy Dee Williams Cast In Lego Batman Movie
The Lego Batman Movie has a new cast member in the form of Billy Dee Williams. Williams was introduced to the world of Batman in 1989’s Batman where he played Harvey Dent. Clearly the universe had a plan in mind for him because he is now taking on the role of Harvey Dent’s evil alter ego, Two-Face. You can look forward to seeing the movie in February of next year.
Detective Pikachu Gets A Director
The Detective Pikachu movie made a big step forward this week, announcing that they now have a director. If you’re wondering what Detective Pikachu is, it is exactly what it sounds like. Rob Letterman (Goosebumps, Shark Tale) is signed on to direct.
Justice Smith Joins Jurassic World Sequel
Justice Smith has quickly become one of my favourite young actors currently working. He starred in Paper Towns and, more recently, The Get Down, now he is joining Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard on the sequel to Jurassic World. His role is currently unknown but the project will begin filming in England next spring.
What other villains do you think will be popping up in the Lego Batman movie? Will the Jurassic Park franchise ever end? Let me know in the comments.
It’s the final day of November which means tomorrow is Christmas. That’s right, the entire month of December is Christmas but if a day is just too long to wait, then I have a couple of early presents for you in the form of some news. A lot has been going on so you might find yourself feeling lost and asking: wait, what happened? if that’s the case, I’ve got you covered.
DC Crossover Week
The CW’s DC Crossover Week is well underway but if you haven’t already been watching, it is a week-long event in which The CW’s DC hero shows crossover. So from Monday to Thursday night, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow are all following one storyline that sees them all jumping into each other’s shows. The event is now halfway through and it’s amazing. If you weren’t watching it already, you are in the fortunate situation of being able to watch the first two episodes right now without having to wait a whole day in between.
The first trailer for The CW’s upcoming series, Riverdale, was released this week. The series is a teen drama based on the characters from Archie Comics. I am not familiar with Archie Comics so I didn’t know what to make of this series: to be perfectly honest, the trailer doesn’t tell you very much except for the fact that they have a very pretty cast (but it’s The CW so what else were you expecting?). If you want to have a look, you can check that out below:
H&M Christmas Advert
The Christmas adverts are one of my favourite parts of the festive season and every year they just seem to get better. H&M took it to a whole new level this year by hiring Wes Anderson to direct a short film and it’s beautiful. It’s Wes Anderson so every shot is gorgeous but the story itself is very sweet. It’s less than four minutes long so check it out:
Have you been watching crossover week? Will you be watching Riverdale in the new year? What’s your favourite seasonal advert currently on air? Let me know in the comments.
Happy Thanksgiving Eve to all of the Americans out there. Over the last few days we’ve had news ranging from castings to law suits and if you want to know more about that then you’ve come to the right place.
Angela Bassett Cast In Black Panther
Black Panther isn’t the next Marvel movie coming out, or the one after, or even the one after that, but it’s coming. I promise. It will be directed by Ryan Coogler and will star Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira and many other amazing people. If that were not enough to get you excited about the film, Angela Bassett has just been added to the cast. Look out for her in the role of Ramonda, Black Panther’s mother, when the film is released in February 2018.
Cars 3 Teaser
Pixar movies were all inarguably critical successes until Cars and even more so, Cars 2 (a lot of people would like to forget Cars 2). Personally, I enjoyed the first film but the second was truly a departure from true form for the animation studio. The teaser for the third installment, however, looks intense. Pixar movies get dark (see: first 5 minutes of Up, incinerator scene in Toy Story 3 etc.) but this teaser appears to show the film’s protagonist slowly and dramatically dying. If they were trying to catch people’s interest, Pixar have certainly done that. I’m actually excited about a Cars movie. Hopefully we’ll get a full length trailer soon but until then, here’s that amazing teaser again:
Amber Heard Sued For Undermining Film
Amber Heard is being sued by the producers behind one of her films, London Fields. You’ve either heard about the movie because of all the controversy that surrounded it last year, or more likely, you’ve never heard of it because some of that controversy included it not securing a distributor. The film was slated to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last year and none of its cast arrived to promote it. There were so many issues (which you can read more about here) but the result is that producers have filed a $10 million lawsuit against Heard.
Which Marvel release after you most excited for? Will you be going to watch the next Cars movie? Are actors obligated to promote their films? Let me know in the comments.
It’s finally the weekend which means two things:
(a) If you haven’t done so already, you should be racing out to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
(b) I’m back with all the movie news from the last few days.
Disney’s Moana Has A Title Change In Italy
It’s not unusual for studios to rename their movies for different international markets: just earlier this year Disney’s Zootopia was sold as Zootroplis in the UK. However, their reasoning behind re-titling the upcoming Moana as Oceania for its Italian release is a little bit more fun. Italy already has a famous Moana – Moana Pozzi, an adult film actress that died in 1994. Clearly she was very good at what she did because when Italian focus groups were asked about the name Moana there was only one girl that came to mind and she wasn’t animated.
Emilia Clarke Joins Han Solo Movie
Emilia Clarke has been cast in the upcoming Han Solo movie. So far Alden Ehrenreich has been cast as the space pirate himself, Donald Glover will take on the role of Lando Calrissian, and Emilia Clarke is now the unnamed female lead. I know next to nothing about Star Wars but the quality of the casts that they’re employing has me fairly certain that I will be sucked in within the next year.
Deadpool 2 Finds New Director
Just under a month after Tim Miller left the production of the sequel to Deadpool, the movie has found a new director in David Leitch, the co-director of John Wick. He has more experience as a stunt double than a director – boasting only two directorial credits – but I’m trying to be optimistic. I’m trying really hard.
Who do you think of when you hear the name Moana? Are you a long-time Star Wars fan or are you just getting into it? Let me know in the comments.
Tired of hearing about the dystopian nightmare that is a Donald Trump presidency? You’ve come to the right place. Amazingly, there is other news out there and some of it’s pretty awesome.
Beauty and the Beast Trailer
We finally got the trailer for Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast and it’s everything that I could have ever wished for. It took Fifty Shades Darker’s title as the most viewed trailer in 24 hours so clearly the rest of the world is loving it as much as myself. The film stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens as the eponymous Beauty and Beast with Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, and Stanley Tucci in starring roles. You can look forward to seeing the film from March 17th but if you haven’t seen the trailer yet or you just need another dose to tide you over, you can watch it below:
Jackie Chan Receives An Oscar
The Academy Awards ceremony takes place in February but that didn’t stop Jackie Chan from finally getting his Oscar this weekend. At the Governor’s awards on Saturday night, four honorary Oscars were distributed by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences. Chan is a film icon and I can think of few who deserve it more. He had this to say:
“Standing here is a dream…After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, breaking so many bones, finally this is mine.”
Matt Damon Will Cameo In New Ocean’s Film
The more that I hear about Ocean’s Eight the more I can’t wait for its arrival. I love the heist movie genre but the quality of the movie is really down to the cast and this cast is unbelievable: Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway… the list goes on (and just gets more impressive). Now it has been revealed that Matt Damon will be making a cameo in the film, most likely as his Ocean’s Eleven character, Linus Caldwell.
How many times have you watched the Beauty and the Beast trailer? Who do you think deserves an honorary Oscar? What’s your dream heist movie line-up? Let me know in the comments.
~RIP Robert Vaughn~
There has been plenty happening in the world of geekdom of the last couple of days and it can all be a little bit overwhelming sometimes. You may even find yourself asking: wait, what happened? If so, I have got you covered.
Now You See Me 3 Hires New Writers
If the fact that a Now You See Me 3 movie is in the works was news to you then you’re not alone. After the second movie tanked this past summer, nobody was expecting a follow up. However, it seems that the studio had been so enthused by the success of the original that they immediately signed off on two sequels which brings us to where we are now. Fortunately, they are making some changes with this installment: Neil Widener and Gavin James will be writing this film. The duo are relatively new but hopefully they can breathe this franchise back to life. At the moment the main cast are said to be returning for the third film.
The Arrowverse is alive and kicking. All of the shows (Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow) have come back strong this autumn and now we can now look forward to a four-day crossover event. In previous years we have seen The Flash and Arrow crossover but in just three weeks time all four of the shows will meet. The CW posted a little teaser which you can check out below:
Cloak And Dagger Delayed
In April, Freeform announced that they were developing a new series based on the Marvel comic: Cloak and Dagger. We had hoped to see it air early in the new year but the show’s release has been delayed to Winter 2018 as the first script undergoes rewrites. I have never been a massive fan of Freeform (I imagine that I’m not their target demographic) but as they lose their biggest shows, Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth, they are running out of successful content.
Are you still interested in the Now You See Me franchise? Are four shows too many for a crossover? Do you care about the Cloak and Dagger series? Let me know in the comments.
