Happy last day before Captain America: Civil War‘s release! Are there other things to talk about other than Cap? Shockingly, yes:
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Screenplay To Be Released As A Book
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (to be released 18 November 2016) marks J. K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut and will be the first time that we get to revisit the wizarding world on the big screen. This is all very exciting for the Potterheads of the world but even more so now as we find out that the screenplay will be available for purchase in book form only a day after the film’s release.
New Ghostbusters Video
This week Sony released a new video highlighting Chris Hemsworth’s character, Kevin, from Ghostbusters. As much hate as the reboot has received, I’m excited to see it and this video shows a very different Hemsworth compared to what we’re used to.
Season 2 of the Netflix series Sense8 began filming this year and I can’t wait to see it. The first season came out of nowhere for me and blew me away but we have just received news of a casting shake-up. Aml Ameen, who played Capheus in the first season has left two episodes into filming the news season: apparently he had a disagreement with one of the co-creators of the show. He will be replaced by Toby Onwumere.
That’s it today but we’ll back on Saturday with more news. Until then:
Do you want the FTBAWTFT screenplay? Has Kevin warmed you to Ghostbusters? Have you watched Sense8? Let me know in the comments.
Happy Thursday people, if you were looking for some news that’s less Kim Kardashian and more Steve Rogers then you have certainly come to the right place.
Game Of Thrones Trailer Released
It feels like we’ve been here before but don’t worry, this is a different and much better trailer. First, I have to say that this is a red band trailer so… well, I mean if you watch Game Of Thrones it really shouldn’t be an issue for you but if you have impressionable young people in the vicinity, maybe don’t press play immediately. I am so excited for this season: season 5 picked up a lot of steam towards the end and it doesn’t look like they’re slowing down going into season 6.
MTV Movie Award Nominations Released
The MTV Movie awards are everything that the Oscars are not. They celebrate blockbusters and no matter how ridiculous they may be, they tend to be more reflective of the general viewing public than any other award show. With that said: you can check out this year’s nominees here.
Captain America: Civil War Will Be The Longest Marvel Movie To Date
This week AMC Theaters released Captain America: Civil War‘s run time and it comes in at a whopping 2 hours and 27 minutes, making it the longest Marvel film to date. It still manages to be fours minutes shorter than the upcoming Batman v Superman film but people are complaining. Honestly, at this point I’m glad that it’s so long – there are so many characters involved that without a long run time, everything would be rushed and there’s no way that it would be as good.
New Ghostbusters Trailer
The Ghostbusters international trailer was released yesterday and I honestly liked it (more than the first one) but I feel like I’m very alone in this stance: once again the Youtube video is mainly dislikes. Chris Hemsworth makes an appearance in this trailer and maybe it’s not the funniest trailer ever but it’s a reboot. They’re trying to placate original fans and bring in new ones. It’s a tricky balancing act.
First Supergirl/The Flash Crossover Episode Image
On March 28 the TV series, Supergirl and The Flash, are doing a crossover episode and I’m so excited. The first image from the episode has been released and it’s a recreation of a Superman/The Flash comic. It’s awesome, I’m incredibly happy. Look for yourself.
That’s all today – I’ll be back with news on Sunday but come back tonight for an Allegiant review. As usual:
Who do you want to win at the MTV Movie Awards? Do you hate the increasing run time of superhero movies? How hyped are you for this Supergirl/The Flash crossover? Let me know in the comments.
It’s Sunday, and in this final Geek News of the week we’ve got everything from Ghostbusters to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Let’s just jump into it:
Every Character To Return For Once Upon A Time Episode 100
Once Upon A Time returns from its mid-season hiatus tonight with its hundredth episode which is said to be full of some great surprises. I’m not sure how they’re going to do it considering the scope of the show but apparently we can expect to see every character this episode. Among other surprises we’ve also been promised a unique perspective of Storybrooke.
Ghostbusters Trailer Released
This week the trailer for Ghostbusters was released to mixed reception: some people loved it, others hated it. At the time of posting this, the Youtube video has more dislikes than likes but what do you think? I confess that I’ve never seen the original Ghostbusters films but from the trailer, this looks like a decent film:
Zootopia Sets Disney Box Office Record
It looks as though Zootopia (or Zootropolis in the UK) is going to take the record for Disney Animation’s biggest opening away from Frozen. The current projections for Zooptopia are $70-75 million, beating Frozen’s $67.4 million. I can’t wait for this film to hit the UK later this month, if you haven’t seen anything about it yet then look it up – it stars Jason Bateman, Ginnifer Goodwin and Idris Elba amongst others.
Spiderman Spin-Off, Venom, In The Works
With Sony’s revival of Spiderman, they’re also bringing back a project that they had put aside. Venom will be getting his own spin-off movie: as far as the movies go, we first saw Venom as one of the numerous villains in Spiderman 3 (played by Topher Grace) but they may go in a different direction for the movie. More recently in the comics, Venom has become more of an anti-hero than a villain but it’s unclear what direction they’re going in.
Flash & Cyborg In Batman v Superman
Where it had been previously said that The Flash and Cyborg would only appear in the Justice League films, it has been confirmed that they will now have cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This is amazing and I don’t know why but I’m still not excited about this film!
That’s it today and this week but there will be more news on Tuesday morning so check that out. Until then:
Will you be tuning into Once Upon A Time Tonight? Any strong feelings about Ghostbusters? Do you want to see an anti-hero Venom? Let me know in the comments.
January was basically a dead month in terms of awesome movies but the rest of this year is amazing. I’m excited. Are you excited? If not, maybe you don’t know exactly how many (hopefully) brilliant films come out this year. In which case, take a look below (all dates are UK release dates).
February 10 – Deadpool
March 10 – Allegiant
March 25 – Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice
March 25 – Zootropolis
April 15 – The Jungle Book
April 29 – Captain America: Civil War
May 19 – X-Men: Apocalypse
June 29 – Finding Dory
July 15 – Ghostbusters
July 22 – The BFG
July 22 – Star Trek: Beyond
August 5 – Suicide Squad
August 12 – Pete’s Dragon
October 28 – Doctor Strange
November 18 – Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
December 2 – Moana
Also, with uncertain release dates we have: Sinister Six, Gambit and Luke Cage (Netflix series). They probably won’t come out this year but I can still dream.
In the world of television there is so much already going on and lots of new seasons and series to look forward to but keep your eye out for Game of Thrones Season 6 (April 25) and Daredevil (March 18).
Dreamworks isn’t really inspiring me this year: they’re rolling out another Kung Fu Panda movie in March and Trolls in October. Teasers for the Trolls movie have been… well, it doesn’t look great but maybe it will surprise (I don’t think it will surprise).
I will keep this post updated if any dates change but for now:
Which movies are you looking forward to this year? Any movies that you’re dreading? Is there something that you’re looking forward to that I didn’t mention? Let me know in the comments.
